This otherwise drowsy town comes alive every November, during the famous Pushkar Mela, Pushkar. Pushkar Fair is informed with a riot of colors and a flurry of activities. The fair is undoubtedly one of the important fairs and festivals in Rajasthan.
Pushkar Fair
Pushkar Mela, Rajasthan is distinguished by the large scale participation of the people. Pushkar Mela in Pushkar is lot more than a mere camel fair. Though it enjoys the distinction of being the world's largest camel fair, Pushkar Fair is also about celebrating the sanctity and richness of the place. The fair continues for a period of twelve days in the month of Kartika. Pushkar Camel Fair takes place sometime around the months of October and November according to the Gregorian calendar.

The camel races are the major draw of the Pushkar Mela, Pushkar. The bedecked camels are busy competing with each other. The well trained camels participating in such contests as musical chairs are one of the major highlights of Pushkar's Pushkar Mela. Even if you leave the merriment aside, Puskhkar Mela, Pushkar is also a great shopping destination for the self-confessed shopaholics. You can shop for gorgeous turbans, pleated ghagaras and woolen blankets at unbelievable prices. You can also browse through a wide collection of beaded necklaces, brassware, textiles and other household items.

Pushkar Fair, Rajasthan enables the opportunity to the desert people, used to a rigorous desert life, to grab their share of fun and frolic. During the fair, the devout Hindu pilgrims flock to the place to take a holy dip in the sacred Pushkar Lake. According to the popular belief, the sins are believed to get washed by taking the holy dip. This act is followed by offering.
